Wedding Makeup Artist in Bowness – Trial Mania!

Sorry I haven’t posted in ages. I don’t know where the time is going?

‘Wedding Season’ is fast approaching, and as a Wedding Makeup Artist in Bowness it seems I am jam packed with Bridal Makeup Trials.

A trial is when my ‘bride to be’ comes to have a chat and practise run before the big day. Not everyone opts for this as they simply don’t have time, but I would say 90% of my brides do.

Trials with Makeup by Polly, Wedding Makeup Artist in Bowness

Having a trial means I know exactly what you want on the big day, and you know exactly what you are going to get. It makes the wedding morning relaxed and easy as we have met, so are at ease and you can relax knowing you were happy at the trial.

At the trial itself you are welcome to bring some pictures of what you like in terms of makeup. It gives me a good starting point on colours and how strong or natural to go. Also the name TRIAL means we can try different things. Ultimately by the end of it, I want you to still look like you, just the best version of you. I might think some black eyeliner looks fab, but if it just isn’t you then let’s not try that. You need to feel as comfortable and confident as possible.

Here are some phone snaps (excuse poor quality) of some #bridestobe2017 who have had their trials in the past couple of weeks.

If you are interested in booking a trial with a Wedding Makeup Artist in Bowness, I travel throughout Cumbria so please get in touch. My email is

Abbey House Barrow

Roxanne, her sisters and bridesmaids were such a lovely and lively bunch, considering we had a very early start for her wedding at Abbey House Barrow. Roxanne has kindly just sent me these pics from her wedding in June, earlier this year.
All the bridal party opted for airbase, the airbrush makeup system – where the foundation is applied with a small airgun. It goes on as a fine mist, all my brides say it feels like air is being blown on their face and they can’t believe it when they see makeup there. My favourite things about using airbrush for weddings are:

You apply it in layers, so you can go as light and natural or as heavy and full coverage as you want.

It’s silicone based, which means it goes on and stays on! Perfect for weddings as it can be a long day and you want your makeup to last. Also great on hot days, as with some foundations the heat can make makeup slide off.

At the end of the day makeup is all about your preference, there is no right or wrongs. (Ok so there are a few wrongs) My point is, I will work with you to make you happy, if that means super natural makeup or a heavy smokey eye, I will suggest and offer input if you like.

Ultimately I will listen and ensure you look and most importantly feel the best and most confident person you can. For some that means extra lashes and lots of blusher, and for others it’s a slick of tinted moisturiser and lip gloss. What ever type of bride you are we will work together to make you look absolutely fabulous!

Wedding Makeup Artist North West – Broadoaks

Nichole was such a fun bride at her wedding which took place at Broadoaks Country House in Troutbeck. They have recently installed a gorgeous lodge on the grounds which was the location of where the bride and her party were getting ready. The lodge is amazing with 2 hot-tubs, one inside and and one outside. The lounge area has been designed with a wedding morning in mind, as there is an enormous mirror on the back wall where there was plenty of room for me the makeup artist and the hairdresser to work our magic.

At Nichole’s trial she was a glasses wearer, and as I recently got mine lasered I was raving about it which inspired her to get lasered, so on the wedding morning I was greeted with a perfectly sighted bride all because I had given her the boost to get it done!

Nichole opted to try the Airbrush Wedding Makeup at her trial and loved the results. Good coverage, with a flawless finish and she was impressed with how long it had lasted. I think that’s the best thing, it lasts 12-24hours compared to traditional foundations.

Airbrush Makeup Artist in the Lake District

Milnthorpe Wedding Makeup Wedding Makeup Artist in Milnthorpe

Excuse the lack of professional photos as these were just taken on my phone. These lovely ladies were bridesmaids at a wedding I was makeup artist at, in Milthorpe yesterday. I always want to do before and after pics, but normally forget with all the wedding day excitement, however yesterday was a rare occasion when I remembered!

Both girls are stunning either with or without makeup, but you can see from these pictures that you don’t have to do anything too drastic and the difference it makes.

They both chose to have Airbrush Wedding Makeup, which is when the foundation is applied using an airgun. You can go as natural or as heavy as you like by applying more layers. I like to use it as it offers a flawless base, and will last all day long as it is silicone based.

Sam’s Testimonial – Wedding Makeup The Cragwood Hotel Windermere

Airbase wedding makeupOn Monday I had the pleasure of meeting Sam Hawley and doing her makeup for her wedding at The Cragwood Hotel.
Here are some lovely words she has sent me:
Polly did my make up for my wedding in August this year. I contacted her beforehand and she was quick to respond and very accommodating of my needs. I came from Kent to the Lake District to get married so there was no chance for a trial (although it was offered), so it was straight to it on the big day!
On the day I had not only requested my make up but also wanted the airbrush foundation and lashes. Polly took time to talk over my normal look and how comfortable I was with make up. I had never had airbrush before so she told me how it worked and then started. It came out really well, I was very impressed with the results. It lasted really well all day but came off easily in the evening with my normal cleanser. For someone who does not like heavy make up, this was perfect as it was light on my skin but gave good coverage, especially where I had some old scarring.
The lashes were easily applied and the whole look was just as I wanted. Again, it lasted really well all day but came off when I wanted it to.
I would highly recommend Polly, she was friendly and chatty all the way through and put me at ease when I was feeling quite nervous! I felt that she really listened to my needs and created the look I wanted for my big day. Thank you for a great job!

The Top 10 basic wedding makeup steps

1. Cleanse, Moisturise & Eye Cream

Before any wedding makeup application it is essential that the skin in clean, so using a cleanser ensure the face and neck is thoroughly cleansed. Following this, moisturise.

The delicate eye area needs a little eye cream, gently pat this on beneath the lower eye over the ‘bag’ area and just above the mobile lid

2. Primer

wedding makeup - mac strobe creamPrimer is essential. Until I trained as a professional makeup artist, I didn’t realise how crucial primer is! It gives the skin a gorgeous luminous look, can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and makes your wedding makeup stay put.

My two favourites are Illamasqua Hydra Veil and Mac Strobe Cream, both give a radiant finish to the skin.

If you suffer from oily skin, there are also some fantastic matt primers which will give your skin a matt look and help to reduce unwanted shine.

3. Eye Primer

wedding makeup - smashbox eye primerEye primer helps eye makeup to last. Before training as a makeup artist, I always used to wonder why my eye makeup wore off so quickly. Then I learnt I wasn’t putting a base/primer on. At the moment I am using a lovely Smashbox eye primer, but I also recommend Mac Paintpots.

4. Eyes

Eye makeup can be very tricky. If you want a natural look go for soft browns, for something more dramatic a purple smokey eye can also look amazing. I think the main secret to getting it right is blending using a good blending brush and using the right products.

5. Foundation

Foundation can be done before or after the eye makeup. If I am doing a heavy look on the eye, I prefer to do the foundation after as you can get a lot of fall. Apply foundation with a foundation brush, then use a stippling brush to work into the skin and give a natural finish.

There are so many foundations out there, so it really depends on the coverage you require; natural, medium or heavy. I am currently using Illamasqua Skin Base, and for a lighter finish I have a tinted Decleor BB Cream or use Mac Face and Body.

6. Conceal

If you suffer from any blemishes, red patches or spots, concealer is very important. Apply with a concealer brush and pat in to the area. For the under eye area, put some just below the inner corner. A makeup artist friend of mine recently recommended the Aldi under eye concealer, so I have just started using it and it is fantastic and was only about £2.99!

7.  Contour

Contouring is so popular at the moment. Especially with Kim Kardashian’s use and promotion of it. I wouldn’t recommend going as heavy as her, but it can certainly help sharpen the cheek bones, jaw law, reduce the size of the appearance of a large nose or forehead.

8. Highlight

It’s nice to highlight under the eye area on the top of the cheek bone. Contouring is used to shade and cover areas and highlight is used to brighten and show off.

9. Blusher

I love blusher and you can get so many colours. Daytime I usually use a nice girly pink, whereas for an evening look I go for a browner/apricot one. What you go for depends on the colour lipstick and eyes you go for.

10. Lips

First line the lips, then fill with lipstick, lip stain or lip gloss.

I’m now an Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist

Following professional and extensive training at I am now proud to offer my services as an Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist.

Airbrush Wedding MakeupApplied using specialist products from, an airbrush finish offers you a flawless high definition look for your big day or special occasion.

As an Airbrush Wedding makeup Artist I apply the makeup by spraying it onto the skin using an airbrush instead of being applied with sponges, brushes, fingers, or other methods.

Sheer Coverage

An airbrush finish has been used by makeup artists for Film, TV and photoshoots for quite some time now, but only recently has it become more mainstream, with ladies (and some men!) requesting that ‘WOW’ complexion for their big day or special occasion.

It is unlike traditional powder or liquid based make-up which can settle and appear in pores and wrinkles. As the makeup is sprayed on, it connects with the skin as millions of droplets of formula. The formula can create an even, sheer, natural appearance to the skin that, if applied properly for a natural look, can appear natural and non-heavy like traditional makeup. Airbrush makeup wears longer than traditional powder or liquid foundation, able to stay put upwards of 12–24 hours

A professional HD makeup finish

A bride faces the same scenarios on their important day that film makers and TV producers face – the need for a flawless finish that lasts and doesn’t move!

As professional Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist based in Cumbria, The Lake District I know my clients want a flawless finish. An airbrush silicone based foundation is the perfect solution.

You may prefer ‘normal’ foundation and that’s fine. At the trial we can determine, the look, coverage and overall impact you want on your big day.

So how is an airbrush foundation different to a normal one?

Airbrush Wedding Makeup ArtistAs an Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist I apply primer, then using my airbase spray gun and compressor I apply the special silicone based foundation to your face.

As the foundation is silicone based it means it is heat-resistant, non-stick and incredibly pliable compound making it perfect for use in Foundation products.

• Vitamin A: Airbase Make-Up includes Vitamin A, an ingredient that is proven to improve elasticity of the skin and therefore reduce fine lines.

• Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant that moisturises and repairs helping to deactivate the free radicals that age the skin.

Benefits of using an Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist on your Wedding Day

It is applied layer by layer, therefore you can have as much or as little base as you prefer. It feels luxurious on the skin and is incredibly lightweight. it won’t clog your pores and allows skin to breathe.

The durability is amazing meaning that it lasts all-day making it perfect for bridal beauty.

Completely flawless

An Airbrush Wedding Makeup Artist will provide an application that is HD flawless finish that is extremely long lasting and requires no touch ups, meaning the bride and bridesmaids need not worry about their make-up wearing off throughout that special day.

I did my friends makeup the other evening and she was very naughty and didn’t wash her face before bed, and she told me that her makeup was still completely in place the next morning! Although it’s not something I would guarantee or recommend!
