Faye got married at Leeming House Penrith in August. I love the first picture above, it’s just what you would hope a wedding morning would be. All the girls chatting, getting ready, while the hair and makeup professionals do their thing!
Faye was a relaxed bride and at her trial wanted to be very natural and subtle as she’s not a huge makeup wearer.
However on the day I did one of her bridesmaids first, with a smokey eye (using brown earthy colours) and some extra individual false lashes and Faye decided she wanted to have that too.
I think the phrase ‘smokey eye’ makes people think about the girls from ‘The Only Way is Essex’, however it’s just the name of the technique, you can do it in any colour and as subtle as you wish.
So for Faye with her fair skin and strawberry hair with bright blue eyes I used brown and gold tones, the extra lashes as to look as natural as possible but really make her eyes stand out without being too ‘made up’ don’t you think?
The other thing is, when you have makeup on with jeans and a cotton top, some people can feel quite over the top. But once the princess dress goes on, and the hair is styled and the diamonds are sparkling makeup some people feel they want more makeup.
As I always say, there’s no right or wrong.
The most important thing is for you to feel great, if that means hardly any makeup that you want to do yourself or lots of false lashes applied by mean, it’s fine AS LONG AS YOU ARE HAPPY x

Nicky’s big day was originally planned to take place in Grasmere at a lovely venue there, however due to the horrific floods in December her venue was affected badly and the refurbishments would not be complete by her wedding date. Now most brides, including myself would probably flip out and stress at this wouldn’t they? Well not this laid back and relaxed bride! She quickly find another venue, Windermere Motorboat Club and everything fell into place.
For Nicky’s Windermere Wedding Makeup, she wanted to be a natural bride, and her wedding party wanted a similar look. However they did all wanted black eye liner and false lashes, but to look at natural as possible. To achieve this look I used individual clusters of lashes as I think these really make a difference but keep the look natural. Even though wearing makeup can be scary for some people, it’s still a good idea to go a little heavier that you think as on the photos it really doesn’t show up as much as you think.
I really love this fresh and natural look, it really suited Nicky’s style and personality. That’s the most important thing I have to work with when doing wedding makeup is making sure,
YOU FEEL LIKE YOU STILL, JUST THE BEST VERSION OF YOU
Whenever I do a trial, when I’ve finished the makeup and it’s time for the reveal, 100% of my brides look into the mirror so closed that they practically kiss it! But you have to remember on your wedding day no-one is that close so you must take a step back to see what everyone else actually sees!

I primed her skin with Serena’s own primer and foundation, which I am always happy to do. Sometimes people are embarrassed to ask, but I am more than happy to use your own products, especially if you love them and know they work for your skin type and tone.
I then used a Mac paint pot to prime the eye area, this makes the eye shadow stay on all day (and night), followed by dark brown shadows, a Stila waterproof liquid liner and of course waterproof mascara.
Serena chose (well I recommended and she agreed!) one of my favourite bridal lipstick shades ever, it’s called BRAVE by Mac, my other it SYRUP by Mac. BRAVE is matt so stays on super long, and the shade suits almost everyone and just seems to suit a bridal look. The makeup was set with Mac Setting Powder and then Mac Setting Spray.
I think the two key things people expect from my work is a flawless look in pictures and makeup that will last on the day.
Due to the crazy weather, on Saturday I got an SOS call at 9.30am from a bride who’s wedding makeup artist couldn’t get to her. Thankfully she couldn’t see me as I was in my dressing gown, however 30 mins later I was there, and got the pleasure of doing her makeup along with her bridal party. This is the email I received….
I just wanted to drop you an email to thank you for coming to the rescue yesterday. Our make up looked incredible until we went to bed, we didn’t top up once. I cannot thank you enough for helping make Aimee’s day asperfect as possible. We had no photographer, and lots of other things went wrong, but we will send you some pictures that our friend took.
Thank you again,
Kelly, Maid of Dishonour
Well Kelly it was my pleasure x

Gemma was the most calm bride I think I have encountered. Totally relaxed, yet monther of 9 month old twins! The day was going very smoothly, until the hair stylist got a tyre blow out in Coniston with no phone service. She arrived with just minutes to do the hair (you would never have know as it looked lovely).
Being the wedding makeup artist at Gemma’s wedding was really a pleasure, I wish her and her husband and adorable baby girls all the best for the future x

On Monday I had the pleasure of meeting Sam Hawley and doing her makeup for her wedding at The Cragwood Hotel.
Here are some lovely words she has sent me:
Polly did my make up for my wedding in August this year. I contacted her beforehand and she was quick to respond and very accommodating of my needs. I came from Kent to the Lake District to get married so there was no chance for a trial (although it was offered), so it was straight to it on the big day!
On the day I had not only requested my make up but also wanted the airbrush foundation and lashes. Polly took time to talk over my normal look and how comfortable I was with make up. I had never had airbrush before so she told me how it worked and then started. It came out really well, I was very impressed with the results. It lasted really well all day but came off easily in the evening with my normal cleanser. For someone who does not like heavy make up, this was perfect as it was light on my skin but gave good coverage, especially where I had some old scarring.
The lashes were easily applied and the whole look was just as I wanted. Again, it lasted really well all day but came off when I wanted it to.
I would highly recommend Polly, she was friendly and chatty all the way through and put me at ease when I was feeling quite nervous! I felt that she really listened to my needs and created the look I wanted for my big day. Thank you for a great job!
